countryside rich in heritage and steeped in history, with a vibrant community
and every amenity - the Dordogne offers something for everyone!
Countryside… The Mill is surrounded by beautiful countryside - rolling hills of vineyards and fields, interspersed with woods and crossed by streams and rivers - exploring it could easily take a fortnight. Walkers will love the marked walking routes that link the local villages, which are also suited to mountain bikers. The area also has disused railway lines converted to walking and cycling tracks, and there are plenty of hillside tracks to woo the more adventurous walker or biker. Hire a canoe to explore the Dordogne, Vezere and Dropt rivers up close, and for those who prefer the big picture, why not take a balloon ride for breathtaking views of the Dordogne's medieval towns and fortifications. Artists, whether painters or photographers, will love the area - landscapes, waterscapes and medieval architecture being in abundance.
Heritage & History… The French are proud of their of their history and heritage, and celebrate their culture to the full. The month of August is dedicated to medieval celebrations through the Dropt Valley, with medieval banquets, shows, displays and games programmed in all of the bastide towns in the region.
There are numerous museums covering subjects such as wine, tobacco, as well as caves, aquariums and zoos. Activities… As you may imagine, there are numerous activities to be undertaking in the Dordogne. Of particular note is golf - check out our suggested golfing week itinerary for both golfers and non-golfing partners.
